Baking soda may play an essential role in cookies and banana bread, but it’s magical powers don’t stop there. This pantry staple can help all around the house.
Clear Clogged Drains
is your drain not draining as fast as you would like? Sprinkle some baking soda down in there. Add some vinegar. Then let the mixture fizz away. Wash with warm water once the fizzing has stopped and you’ll be shocked your clogged drain is fixed.
Get Rid of Funky Fridge Smells
Left your leftovers a bit too long in the fridge? Or is that fish from last night just a little too funky for your taste? Fill a small bowl with baking soda and place it, uncovered, in the fridge. It will absorb the odors so your fridge doesn’t make you think twice about grabbing a snack.
Remove Stubborn Baked-On Food
From casserole dishes to fry pans, burnt food and grease can be hard to scrub free. Rather than just elbowing your way through it, sprinkle a little baking soda on before you scrub. It’ll do wonders.
Get Rid of Soap Scum
Your sink looking a little worse for wear? Sprinkle some baking soda around the interior of the sink. Let it sit for a few minutes. Then, scrub it clean with warm water. The baking soda will help you easily remove everything from soap scum to toothpaste.
De-Stinky Smell Shoes
Are your running shoes developing a bit of a funk? Place a very small bowl of baking soda in each one, sliding it as close to the toes as possible. Allow it to sit for at least one day so the baking soda can absorb the odor. (Some folks suggest you sprinkle the baking soda in your shoes and then shake it free. This can work, for a time. But it’s darn near impossible to get all the baking soda out, which causes excess gunk to accumulate and can ruin your shoes.)
